Bringing a New Voice to Regina

Am I Eligible to Vote?

You are qualified to be registered as a voter in a municipality or school subdivision if you are (on the day of election):

  • a Canadian citizen;
  • who is of 18 years of age;
    • residing, in the case of a municipality, other than a resort village, in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election; or
    • residing in the municipality, or on land now in the municipality, for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election; or
    • the owner of assessable land situated in the municipality, or of land now situated in the municipality, for at least three consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election.

How do I vote?
Prior to receiving a ballot, you must complete a voter registration form stating that you are an eligible voter.

If you are qualified to vote, you will be given a single ballot. You may only vote for one candidate in each category, unless voting for Separate School Board Trustees in which case you may vote for up to seven candidates.

You are eligible to vote for Mayor, Ward Councillor and either Public School Board Trustee or Separate School Board Trustees. To be eligible to vote for the Separate School Board Trustees, you must be of the faith of the minority that established the separate school division; i.e., if the separate school division was established for people of the Roman Catholic faith, then you must be of the Roman Catholic faith.

However, if the Pope in Rome is recognized as the leader of your church, for example, Ukrainian Catholic, you are considered a member of the minority Catholic faith thereby becoming an “elector” for the Roman Catholic separate school board.

When you receive the ballot mark the oval beside the candidate of choice. Do not mark more than one space in each category unless you are voting for Separate School Board Trustees.

Ballots are placed in a special “secrecy sleeve” to ensure that all votes are confidential.
